bugged out

Okay, as most of you already know, I am a Chicagoan—through and through. Since moving to Georgia 10 years ago, I have made a mental list of all the things Atlanta, Decatur, Norcross, College Park, Riverdale (and every other city I’ve lived) could alter to make home more like “home”.

Prior to a few nights ago, I would have placed the need for food options surpassing the quality of the Waffle House—after 10pm at the top of the list. I might have even requested that a traffic fairy put a spell on all local drivers—giving them the “know-how” to navigate the road without killing us all. But, most important—I would have the word “shawty” removed from the native tongue…forever—again, until a few nights ago.

You see. A few nights ago—I was reminded of that which bothers me the most about Georgia. The trees. Now I know you’re confused—so let me explain. You see, the trees are a symbol of all that ails my heart and soul—“outside”. You see, all my life I’ve been waiting to move to a place with an “outside” that didn’t consist of bugs. As you’ve probably guessed, I have yet to find such a place. Anyway, this “outside” thing pisses me off because EVERY animal, bug, etc. that lives in it—in my humble opinion—wants to be INSIDE. So, I have the pleasure of spending 30% of my lifetime trying to keep things that belong “outside” from coming “inside” my home.

Which leads me to the inspiration of this blog. On one of the most important nights of the week (Thursday @ 9pm…Grey’s Anatomy), I was being held hostage to a GINORMOUS, GARGANTUBIG, LARGEANTIC bug. Normally, I keep spray on hand for these kinds of situations, but on this particular night—my feelings of inadequacy were far too strong. For the first time in my life, I think I felt my heart tremble with fear. After calling several captains, cursing and crying (I’m real ashamed about that one)—FINALLY someone came to save me. I would tell you the rest, but I’m getting scared all over again…

Counselor tip of the day: If you have friends to call on and people that love you—even when you’re being ridiculous, then you’ll always be at home.

Hi,
I just wanted to say that I love your blog and I think it's a great idea. Keep up the good work.

On the subject of bugs, insects, arachnids - I won't even go there because I'll have a panic attack! Seriously, when I see or think about any sort of crawly creature with more than 4 legs, I freeze. Weird huh? You'd think I'd be more scared of the animals that are larger, but I have no problem with rodents - go figure.

If you get a chance check out my blog...it's probably kinda boring compared to yours and I surely don't write as well. I do what Comp. teachers always told you not to do - and that's write how you would talk. Oh well.

It is roaches and walking sticks that put me in a panic. Other than that if it is a bug I will grab my camera and take its picture. Then I will grab a container, capture it, and set it free. I know I need professional help and I am not talking exterminator either. Good day.

YAY.. I've been checking your blog waiting for a new post and it's here, it's here!

Bugs and creepy crawlies is such a good idea for a post, too. Do ya mind if I *borrow* it?

I scare the crap out of hubby. He'll be sitting at his puter when all of a sudden he'll hear me scream out, "BUG!!!!!" Poor guy.

Maaaaaaaaaan, y'all should have seen it!

The Counselor's fear, not the bug. Hey, I was at work at the time, but like she said, thank God for good friends and family right?

So, I'm not crazy?? LOL

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who's scared of things smaller than me!

Michelle...I have every intention of checking your blog out--I'm sure it's great...listening to other people vent can be educational and entertaining.

Pepper...I admire your strength...I just don't have what it takes to set anything free :)

Barb...yes i'm back! Thanks for reading! I had some problems with my hard drive, but they're all resolved.

Since I was sworn to secrecy I can't reveal any details of the evening in question, however, I CAN tell you that I was the saviour of the day and I got NO credit for it. Ungrateful so-n-so! Just kidding Parker. I have to agree, and one day, I'll be at my most ridiculous and I'll have to call on you one day- it just won't be regarding any 6-legged critters!

Welcome back Counselor. While I don't emphasize 100% with your reaction to bugs;I too hate them in my living/eating space, that's why I will not eat outside-you know how my MOM loves to barbecue!-I get the food and come inside. #2, it's good Dragon was not there. I don't think he'd have been much physical help;he is his father's son. Thanks PAZ for rescuing my niece! By the way, I haven't read anything new from you in a while-I know the life of an Educator is demanding. Find some time. LOVE YOU BOTH. micki
