Revolving Door

Life is like a revolving door. No matter how hard you push, the same three or four doors come spinning around in your life with the sole intention of knocking you on your ass. For me, these doors can represent a variety of areas: work, love, finances, and sometimes friendships. When I was younger, I found myself getting pissed off each time life knocked me on my rump, now that I'm older, I realize that it's much more effective to spend my time preparing for life's falls--so they won't hurt as much.

After falling several times (whether by missing a step on my own or being "tripped up" by an unidentified foe) , I somehow feel like an expert on the subject. I believe that the key to life is learning how to fall with grace. You know, how to get up when you've been knocked down with enough courage and wisdom to know that you'll fall again and be well enough to walk with your head held high shortly after.

The trouble with humans, as I see it, is that we tend to see the door coming, but we seldom do anything about it until it's too late. As a result, the door hits us on the rump when we're moving too slow, stubs our toes when moving too fast and slams our fingers--when we try to get in where there's no room for us. After being injured, it's only a matter of time before the next door comes swirling around to knock you on your rump.

Counselor Tip of the Day: Although it is inevitable to go through life without falls, it's senseless to continue to fall in the same hole. Sometimes the best preparation for a fall--is sheer avoidance of the trap.
